BENTLEY TEAM ABSOLUTE TACKLES QUICK CANADIAN CIRCUIT
DALLAS, Texas (May 18, 2016) – Following a successful weekend in the GT Asia Series, where Bentley Team Absolute dominated with two victories, the team is traveling across the globe to Mosport, Ontario, Canada for the latest rounds of the Pirelli World Challenge GT Championship.
At the Asian championship’s season opener in South Korea, two of the team’s Bentley Continental GT3s finished 1-2 in the feature race with more than 20 seconds on the third-place car. The team hopes to carry this positive momentum to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), where drivers Andrew Palmer (US) and Adderly Fong (HK) will continue their quest for the Pirelli World Challenge GT Championship.
The No. 87 and No. 88 Bentley Continental GT3s were last in action with the Pirelli World Challenge series at Barber Motorsports Park, April 22 – 24. Bentley Team Absolute is currently fifth in the GT Team Championship, while Palmer and Fong are eighth and 12th, respectively, in the GT Driver Championship.
Formerly known as Mosport, CTMP is one of the fastest circuits on the Pirelli World Challenge calendar. In qualifying, average lap speeds reach in excess of 115 mph. Last year at CTMP, a Bentley Continental GT3 reset the GT race lap record with a lap of 1:17.134 (114.766 mph).
Although the 10-turn, 2.458-mile road course is well-suited to the 4.0L twin-turbo V8–powered Bentley Continental GT3, neither Palmer nor Fong have raced at the circuit before. It may take some time familiarize themselves with the Canadian rollercoaster, but expect to see their lap times shrink over the course of the weekend.
Both Saturday’s race at 1:15pm ET and Sunday’s race at 3:00pm ET will be streamed live on world-challenge.com. A weekend recap will air on CBS Sports Network, May 29, at Noon ET.

“For us, at least with what we experienced in Asia last weekend, the car is really good in high-speed corners, so I think Mosport will be really good for us. We saw a little bit of that at Barber, but Barber also has some low-speed corners where you need more traction. If there was an ideal track on the calendar for the Bentley Continental GT3, it’s Mosport, so we’re very much trying to capitalize on that this weekend.
“I’ve never raced at Mosport. As a kid, I did many races at the kart track there, so I’m familiar with the area and the facility. I know there’s a lot of natural, rolling terrain and not a lot of runoff. It’s a track that requires a lot of commitment. I think the key is to trust your car, take some chances and let it all hang out. It’s a track that separates the boys from the men.
“Our races seem to follow a pattern of being back-to-back; first it was COTA to St. Pete, then it was Long Beach to Barber, and now it will be Mosport to Lime Rock. Obviously, you never want to do something that will screw up two races instead of one, but the mindset never really changes. We still approach every race with our eyes on the championship. I’ll definitely work up to getting on pace. I’m not going to be throwing the car around my first lap, but when it comes to qualifying, I’m not leaving anything on the table.”
Adderly Fong (HK) #88 Bentley Continental GT3
“The weekend in Korea with the GT Asia Series was definitely interesting. I was happy that I could secure pole position in the first round of the series and lead most of my stint in the first race. I think we are making good improvements every time we go out on track.
“Mosport looks very high speed and should be very exciting. The track surface looks like it may be uneven in some places. Having not been there will be a challenge. Looking at video footage I can find online, it looks like the track leaves no room for error, since there’s not much runoff.
“I think Mosport will suit the Bentley Continental GT3 quite well. As we showed in Barber, we are making good speed in the fast corners due to our downforce, so I think we should be quite strong out there.
“As with any race, ‘to finish first, you must first finish’ I believe. We know the Bentley Continental GT3 run by Absolute Racing is getting stronger and stronger with every race under its belt. From our ever-increasing knowledge of how the car works with the Pirelli tire, we should have a strong package going into the weekend.”
