Absolute Racing Set to Challenge the Streets of Bangsaen
- Home race for Tanart Sathienthirakul
- Philip Hamprecht primed for the streets of Thailand
- Yuan Bo focus all on points
SHANGHAI, 26th of June – Absolute Racing serviced teams are heading to Bangsaen Street Circuit in Thailand for Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) Round 5 and 6 to experience one of the most exciting tracks of Southeast Asia for the first time.
PCCA rookie and local hero Tanart Sathienthirakul is sixth in the drivers’ championship standings and is one of the few to know the 3.5 km Bangsaen Street Circuit. The 25-year-old Tanart kicked off the year in front of the Thai fans, driving a Porsche 997 GT3 Cup in the Thailand Super Series’s Super Car GTM category race to rack up the laps and learn the track on last February’s event.
The challenges are coming thick and fast this year for Philipp Hamprecht in his Team StarChase Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and the one facing him this weekend is one he is particularly looking forward to. The 19-year-old from German loves street circuits and the Bangsaen event is the only street circuit on the PCCA calendar.
Yuan Bo is currently eighth in the championship standings, as Team C&D Auto lies spectacularly second in the new Porsche Dealer Trophy. The Chinese racer knows how important it will be for him to score this weekend after missing the points in the second race at Suzuka.
Located in Thailand’s Chonburi province, the 3.7-km street track winds through the scenic seaside town of Bangsaen with 20 turns, including a sharp hairpin, that take racers near the beach. First introduced in 2007, it became a regular host of the Thailand Super Series’ Speed Festival with revisions to the track in 2009.
As usual the action starts when the cars roll out on Friday morning from 09.40 to 10.20. This is followed by free practice two from 13.20 to 13.50. Then qualifying is run on Saturday from 10.15 to 10.45. The first 30-minute race starts at 15.40. The second race is scheduled for Sunday at 16.35.
#15 Absolute Racing – Tanart Sathienthirakul
“As it’s my home race I do expect to have a good result here. I have raced at Bangsaen before, early on this year, which I think that gives me a bit of advantage! Therefore, I think podium is always possible here!”
#88 Team C&D Auto – Yuan Bo
“I am new to the circuit but from what I’ve seen it will be a challenging weekend. It is a street circuit, which means you have to concentrate all the time, as there is no margin for error. I will try very hard to avoid doing any mistake. My main goal is to finish both races and score the maximum possible points.”
#99 Team StarChase – Philip Hamprecht
“It is a new track and a new challenge for me but I am confident we will be strong there. I love street circuits and I’m really looking forward to racing in this circuit”.
