Team StarChase wins under the lights of Singapore
SHANGHAI, 18th of September – Team StarChase’s Philip Hamprecht claimed his maiden Porsche Carrera Cup Asia win in Saturday night’s Round 9 on a weekend that Tanart Sathienthirakul e Team C&D Auto’s Yuan Bo collected important points for the championship standings.
As the lights went out for the first and only night race of the season, Hamprecht, who qualified fifth, quickly moved up to fourth. The German driver stayed there for the rest of the 12-lap race. But the best was yet to come.
Following a post-race review by race stewards, the top-three finishers received 30-second penalties for late race infractions. Hamprecht has been promoted to first place, marking his first race win of this season and in the Carrera Cup Asia. With this win, Absolute Racing won in every championship contested this season.
Focus on finishing the race and gathering points, series rookie Tanart S completed his first outing in the streets of Singapore in seventh, after starting from sixth. However, the Thailand driver has been promoted to fourth as a result of the top-three penalties.
Starting from P11, Team C&D Auto driver Yuan Bo took a conservative approach to this race and crossed the finish line in tenth.
Hamprecht lined up alongside Tanart S. on the third row of the grid for Sunday’s race. Yuan Bo started the race from eleventh.
Bad weather hit the event on Sunday morning, and because of the conditions, the race would start with two laps behind the Safety Car. Hamprecht had a quiet race in fifth, gathering valuable points for the season-long championship. The German driver currently sits sixth in the championship standings with three races to go.
Team-mate Tanart S concluded his first Singapore Grand Prix weekend with a sixth place finish. With this result, the Thailand driver lies seventh in the championship standings.
On a track where overtaking is always a tall order, Team C&D Auto driver Yuan Bo climbed three positions to eight!
Team StarChase and Team C&D held onto the second and third position respectively in the Porsche Dealer Trophy.
Team Director Ingo Matter said, “The Singapore Grand Prix is always a tough weekend and we are happy with Philip and Team StarChase win in race one. It was not the way we wanted to win but we take it. We’re also pleased with the flawless performance of Tanart over the weekend in such a difficult and demanding circuit to master. Yuan Bo produced some very strong overtaking manoeuvres on Sunday, under difficult track conditions, so he was able to score some very useful points for Team C&D Auto. We now look forward to Malaysia, where we expect to be quite competitive again.”
The Absolute Racing serviced teams now have a short two-week break before heading to Sepang International Circuit for the 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia penultimate race weekend of the season on September 30 and October 1.
