Akash Nandy Confirmed for 2018 F3 Asian

Akash Nandy brings a lot of single seater experience to the team

Malaysian Akash Neil Nandy will join the Absolute Racing for the inaugural season of Formula 3 Asian Championship certified by FIA alongside USA’s Jaden Conwright.

Having raced in single seaters since 2011, Nandy made his European debut in 2014 after taking third in Formula Masters China Series. The Malaysian driver also had a strong showing in 2015 where he graduated to German Formula 3 Cup, missing out on the title by just one point despite the fact he missed four races.

In 2016 Nandy took part of the GP3 Series and won the GT-Am class of the Asian Le Mans Series, stepping up to Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in the following season, where he finished eight overall.

Nandy is not a stranger to Absolute Racing. He tested for the squad’s Carrera Cup Asia outfit in the winter at Sepang, impressing with his speed and progress. He will have the first contact with the brand new Autotecnica Motori Alfa Romeo-powered Tatuus F.3 T-318 during the official testing days to be held on July 9 and 10 in Malaysia.

The inaugural F3 regional Asian championship calendar includes 15 races – three at each of the five rounds – at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, and China’s Ningbo International Speedway and the Shanghai International Circuit. The season will kick start with an official test on July 9 and 10 in Sepang.

Nandy said of the upcoming season: “Firstly, I’m grateful for this opportunity provided by Absolute Racing to compete in this inaugural championship of Asian F3. It all is very exciting and I can’t wait to get a feel of the new car and as well back on track. Obviously our goal is to be fighting for podiums and race wins. I believe that with the team’s track record and my experience of single seaters will allow us to move in the direction that we are hoping for.”

Absolute Racing Team Director Ingo Matter added: “We’re really pleased to confirm Akash in our Asian F3 team for this season. He is a skilled driver and will bring his vast international experience to the team. With his single seater background and our track record of taking drivers to the next level, we’re confident that he will be running at the front this year.”
