Absolute Racing aiming high for F3 season finale

Absolute Racing is hunting single-seater glory this coming weekend as the inaugural F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA heads to Sepang International Circuit for the 2018 season finale.

Following a successful test session at the track this Thursday; a solid three-car assault by the Absolute Racing trio during the inaugural season’s final three races looks set to be on the cards.

As is always the case in Malaysia, high temperatures and humidity will test the drivers physically and mentally.
Local hero Akash Nandy driver obtained his best result of the season in the opening round of the season at Sepang earlier in the year. The Malaysian driver, who finished second in Round 3, would like nothing better than to add a F3 win or two to his resume and improve his fifth place in the championship standings.

Seventy-three points separate the four championship contenders, with the three Sepang races offering a total of 75. Round 6 winner Jaden Conwright lies third in the championship standings and is well positioned to strike with three races to go. The American youngster has some unfinished business as well. He finished fourth twice in the first visit to Sepang, but he proved already that he is capable of winning.

Joining the team this weekend is Ye Yifei from China. The 18 year-old has been identified as one of China’s most exciting young racing talents and will do his debut in the series in order to prepare the 2019 Winter Series campaign.

All three races will be live-streamed on the official website (www.f3asia.com) with the first race of the weekend starting under lights at 19:15 local time.

Team Quotes

#16 Ye Yifei: “I am really looking forward to the race this weekend, it will be my first ever run in a F3 car and in Sepang. I believe that after racing several years in the leading European single-seater championships I can make use of my experience to help the team. Absolute Racing is one of the best teams in Asia, plus the great result I’ve shown in Europe; make me feel confident ahead of the weekend. My goal is to learn as much as possible, even though there’s such little amount of time, since everything is pretty much new to me. I will give my best and work hard with the team to face these challenges.”

#29 Akash Nandy: “I’m super stoked to be going back to home track for the finale of F3 Asia. The last time we were here, I felt very confident and was able to fight at the front and I’m looking to repeat that again this weekend. It will be interesting to see the difference in the car coming back here as we have been having updates almost every race weekend. I’m sure there is a step forward and I’m looking forward to getting on track.”

#80 Jaden Conwright: “I can’t wait to head back to Sepang after this long season. It’ll be interesting to see the differences between the first race weekend and this final race weekend. With a number of new drivers and 18 cars competing this weekend it’ll be the biggest grid of the year. Weather may play a factor with variable conditions, but regardless of the weather we’ll approach this race weekend with the same calm and constructive mindset as always and be fighting at the sharp end of the field during the moment that counts!”

Ingo Matter (Team Director): “After we have seen this season we’re looking to go out on a high at Sepang. We have a strong line up which I’m confident at our second ‘home’ circuit will bring us more silverware. We’ve had a really good end to the season with lots of podiums in different championships, including in the F3 Asia series. We can now build on that this weekend and then look towards 2019 after that.”
