Shanghai to kick off PCCA new season
The 2019 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia race season begins this weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit for Absolute Racing teams. Team StarChase, Bunjong Motorsports and Zheng Tong Auto will run 16 races this year across some of the best Asian racetracks.
Germany’s Philip Hamprecht will spearhead Team StarChase campaign for the title in the series for the second consecutive season. China’s Bao Jinlong returns to defend the Pro-Am class crown with Zheng Tong Auto. After an incredible race win last weekend in the Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia at Sepang, where he teams up with Hamprecht, Thailand’s Tanart Sathienthirankul will debut new outfit Bunjong Motorsports at the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix support event this weekend.
Tanart Sathienthirakul (#15 Bunjong Motorsports): “My expectations for this season are high. I have been doing the Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia so jumping now for the Carrera Cup Asia car will be challenging. It will be both challenging things: new season and to re-adapt to the Cup car. In the end I believe everything will be fine and I hope to achieve a good result here at Shanghai. We are well prepared for the season kick off and I’m convinced we can do well from the start.”
Bao Jinlong (#55 Zheng Tong Auto): “The Test Days went very good for me. My best lap time is much faster than before. I have a good feeling ahead of this weekend. We set a goal that we want to get closer to the Pro class drivers. I want to be on the podium in every race and win the Pro-Am class again. I’m determined to start the season on right foot.”
Philip Hamprecht (#99 Team StarChase): “I’m very excited for the start of the 2019 season. I’m happy with the progress we made throughout the Test Days weekend and am looking forward to our first race this weekend at Shanghai. I’m feeling more prepared than last year. We hope to be able to be even more consistent than we were last year, score as many points as possible, and win the drivers’ championship this time.”
Fabien Fior (Team Director): “Every racing season we start with the same intentions and that’s to win the championship. We are extremely encouraged by what was an impressive first outing during the Test Days. Shanghai is a track that our drivers are very familiar with, so hopefully we can start the year on a positive note.”
