Jono Lester joins Absolute Racing for Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia

New Zealand talent Jono Lester will join Absolute Racing for the second round of the 2019 Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia. The Kiwi will share the #912 Porsche 911 GT3 R with Yuan Bo.

In Buriram, the 29-year old Lester, who has successfully established himself as a professional GT driver in Asia for the past eight years, having graduated from Porsche Carrera Cups at a young age, will take over the seat of Porsche Young Professional Dennis Olsen, who has commitments elsewhere. The duo will be entered in the Silver Cup.

Lester said of the upcoming challenge, “I’ve always admired the professionalism of Absolute Racing, and believe they are one of – if not the best – GT3 team in Asia currently. It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to join them in their new chapter with, driving the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 R which by all accounts in a spectacular bit of kit. The speed of the new car – and Bob – at round one was super impressive, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he and I can do together.”

Obviously Jono is an extremely exciting driver who has made a big impact in GT racing and we are delighted that he strengths our #912 car line up. Bob and Jono form a strong Silver Cup line-up and podium finish in Buriram is a realistic target.”

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific customer team Absolute Racing landed a major triumph at the second race of the Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia in Sepang. After a hard-fought effort, Philip Hamprecht and his teammate Tanart Sathienthirakul took over the drivers’ championship lead, and the Thai-German pair sits first also in the Silver Cup category. Following the success in Sepang, Absolute Racing now ranks first in the teams’ standings.

The next double-header event of the Blancpain GT World Challenge Asia is held on 11 and 12 May at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand.
