Racing History:

Brian is a native of Newport Beach, a fifth generation Californian and a lifelong motorsports enthusiast.  If you were to see the Wong family photo album, Brian’s interest started early with 6 month old Brian sitting on a off road quad wishing he could ride. The photo album progresses to 2 wheel off road motorcycle riding, then organized NASCAR series starting at age 13 in the Legends series, and

progressing up the NASCAR ladder, through the NASCAR West and East series.  The next NASCAR step will be a Nationwide Series race this season.  Starting at an early age and progressing rapidly, Brian was always on the younger side of drivers.  This has caused him to mature early, in a sport of adults.

This age discrepancy carried forward in the sports car series.  At age 17 Brian was the youngest to receive his Porsche racing license and progress again up the competition ladder.  His racing ability was recognized in 2010 by Porsche Motorsports with an invitation as one of 12 young race drivers in the world, to Germany and Italy for a driver assessment.  In 2010 Brian raced in the prestigious and competitive American Le Mans Series, the IMSA Challenge Series, the Porsche SuperCup series in Europe (companion race to the F1 races) and the NASCAR West.

Throughout his career, Brian has raced typically between 20-35 weekends a year, while attending school.  Brian is a 3rd year student at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, currently on a one year break to pursue his racing career.

Brian’s family started a race car team, borne out of a typical father/son recreation, into a recognized NASCAR team.  The most common question asked of Brian and the family, is “why are you in racing?”  Being the only Asian team and driver in America has been an education all in itself.   Regardless, the team has attracted many seasoned and well known race car drivers from Indy, NASCAR and Porsche, to race alongside Brian in a Speed Wong Racing car.

What started as a fun hobby has turned into a business for the Team and a prospective profession for Brian.  Having now traveled and raced in Europe, Canada, America, and China, a humble and private person by nature, more fully appreciates the opportunity afforded him.  Being able to see the world outside of Newport Beach and grow as a person is just one of the great benefits that racing has brought Brian.

Personal sponsors include international brands, Quiksilver, Dryer’s Grand Ice Cream, Eibach Springs.

For 2011 Brian has signed contracts to race for teams in 3 different series, in China’s Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, in the American Le Mans Series and in NASCAR.
