Sun Jingzu and Bhurit Bhirombhakdi shared the wins at Ningbo International Speedpark to make it a fine weekend for the Absolute Racing contingent in the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup.
On Saturday, even carrying the 20kg of success ballast, Sun Jingzu emerged victorious in Round 5. Fresh from a solid performance in the Suzuka 10 Hours, the Chinese driver conquered maiden overall win in the series. Second, following a valiant charge to the podium after being shunted to the back of the pack, was Australian Yasser Shahin. This weekend was the first that the The Bend Motorsport Park liveried Audi R8 LMS GT3 was technically supported by Absolute Racing.
Taking the final podium place was championship points-leader, ProMax Team’s Andrew Haryanto, who crossed the line first but was handed a 30-second post-race penalty for a first turn clash with pole-sitter Bhurit Bhirombhakdi. Bhurit Bhirombhakdi was the “Ringmeister” this past weekend in the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup double-header at the 5.148 km Grand Prix configuration of the Nürburgring circuit. Singha Plan by Absolute Racing driver won both races of the weekend, joining Andrew Haryanto on the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup team line up for 2019 Total 24 Hours of Spa – a reward on offer to the highest points-scorer in each country on the Cup’s 2018 calendar.
The seven-car Asian fleet of Absolute Racing started off the weekend on right foot with Bhirombhakdi and Haryanto sharing pole-positions in the Cup first European event, where fortunately the unpredictable weather of the Eifel region didn’t come to play.
On Friday Bhirombhakdi converted his first place start into a tremendous first race win in the series as Haryanto finished second overall and kept the championship lead intact.

Absolute Racing are heading to Europe! The second Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup event of the season is upon us, with the teams and drivers travelling to Germany for the Round 3 & 4.
The Cup will make the European debut on May 11-12 in support of one of the most important GT races in the world – the Nürburgring 24 Hours. This event also marks the return of Absolute Racing to the continent where the sport began.
The Cup’s second double-header will be held on the 5.148 km Grand Prix configuration of the circuit. The Eifel Forest circuit demands the ultimate respect of everyone who turns a wheel on its undulating and challenging twists and turns. The weather adds an element of unpredictability that can shake things up.
The seventh season of Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup kicked off this weekend in the streets of Adelaide with the Asian fleet managed by Absolute Racing taking the weekend’s honours.
Series newcomer Andrew Haryanto was the first winner of the season and, as the highest overall points-scorer in the Australian rounds, the Indonesian has secured a drive on the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup team in the 2019 Total 24 Hours of Spa– a reward on offer to the highest points-scorer in each country on the Cup’s 2018 calendar.
The first ever visit to Australia was without a doubt one of the most challenging events in the Cup history, featuring two 17-lap races along the 3.2 kilometre temporary racing circuit – a venue completely surrounded by unforgiving concrete walls. This was a very physically demanding event for the drivers due to the demanding Adelaide street circuit layout and the usual warm ambient temperatures in March.
SHANGHAI, 28th of February, 2018 – Everything is set for an exciting seventh season of the Audi Sport R8 LMS Cup. On the challenging 3.129km Adelaide Street Circuit in Australia eight Absolute Racing-managed Audi R8 will start their engines for the first round of the single-make championship operated by Audi Sport customer racing Asia.
This season the one-make series fields Audi R8 LMS’ in GT3 and GT4 configuration, with the GT4 variant set to make its debut both in the series and in competition on Australian soil. In 2018, Absolute Racing manages the Cup’s Asian-based line up.
Back to contest a record-setting seventh consecutive season is Jeffrey Lee. Team Audi Volkswagen Taiwan representative will become the only driver to have appeared in every Cup season since its debut in 2012 – when he won the first-ever Am Cup title. He took his second Am title in 2016, and last year finished runner-up in the Am+
Beijing, January 22, 2018 – Chinese actor and pop star Han Geng will enter the 2018 Audi R8 LMS Cup. Han will pilot a Hard Memory Hero Super Car Team Audi R8 LMS GT4, entered as part of a previously-announced two-car line-up from official Cup partner NINE Entertainment. The Chinese ace, who competed in last season’s China GT Championship, will face a strong line-up of privateers from Asia, Australia and Europe in the Cup’s seventh season.

Leading Chinese film and TV production company, NINE Entertainment, has been announced as an official series partner of the Audi R8 LMS Cup for 2018. NINE Entertainment’s CEO Alex Yan became the first Asian Audi R8 LMS GT4 customer when he received one of the race cars – from the first batch of 12 produced worldwide – at an Audi Sport customer racing event in Neuburg, Germany today.
The race car will be entered into the 2018 Audi R8 LMS Cup by team Hard Memory, which becomes the Cup’s first GT4 team. The team takes its name from a Chinese TV show produced by NINE Entertainment, with the car to be piloted in the Cup in 2018 by a Chinese star from the company’s roster.
Beijing, November 16, 2017 – The Audi R8 LMS Cup has announced its 10-round 2018 calendar that spans three continents and takes in some of the world’s premier events. With debuts in Australia at the Adelaide 500 and in Europe at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, the Cup’s seventh season also includes two China double-headers in Ningbo and Shanghai. The championship will then come to a crescendo under the floodlights of its first night race at the season finale in Malaysia.
The season also includes the new Shanghai 888 endurance race as an invitational event for Cup competitors.
