Absolute Racing competes on home ground this weekend when the Blancpain GT Series Asia makes its annual trip to China for the Shanghai International Circuit rounds.

Absolute Racing aims to bounce back from a tough Fuji meeting last month and close the gap to the Championship leaders as the Blancpain GT Series Asia enters the final two meetings of 2018. Shanghai has been a happy hunting ground for the team in the past, with Absolute Racing celebrating many victories and podiums on the “home of Chinese Motorsport” in recent years, including two podium finishes here in 2017.
Cheng Congfu and Martin Rump are leading the team’s charge, and the two official Audi Sport Asia drivers are confident they can bounce back from a tricky second weekend in
Blancpain GT Series Asia Round 7 & 8 weekend at the Fuji Speedway, in Japan, proved to be a big challenge for the three-car Absolute Racing team but in the end the Audi R8 LMS armada still managed to score points in both races with all the cars, which has to be considered a positive factor.

Qualifying didn’t go quite as well as the team would hope. Rump’s Q1 was thwarted by traffic where a clean lap was unobtainable. The Estonian driver set the fifth fastest with a lap of 1:38.278 around the 4.563-kilometer, 16-turn track. The Absolute Racing three-car team is ready for the third event of the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia, to be held on the legendary Suzuka Circuit in Japan from June 30 – July 1.
The Rounds 5 and 6 of the season takes the Audi R8 LMS-equipped team and its drivers to the fondly regarded 5,807km circuit created in the 1960s with a distinctive 18 turn figure-eight layout.
Last season, Absolute Racing serviced teams scored a double-podium at Suzuka, and the team is motivated, determined and very well prepared for this year’s double header. Absolute Racing drivers returned to the Blancpain GT Series Asia podium in a thrilling weekend at the Buriram’s Chang International Circuit, a stunning 4,554km FIA Grade 1 circuit designed by renowned track architect Hermann Tilke just hours away from the capital of Bangkok, which attracted 26,000 fans over the weekend.

Absolute Racing’s 2018 Blancpain GT Asia Series campaign got underway at the 5.452-km Sepang International Circuit this weekend (14-15 April 2018, with Anthony Liu and Josh Burdon scoring a second-place result after the young Australian snatched a surprise pole-position on his GT3 debut weekend.
Teammates Cheng Congfu and Martin Rump clinched the first win in the Silver Cup class as Andrew Kim and Adderly Fong showed that they can also be a force in the upcoming races.
Qualifying brought a very strong performance by the Chinese-based team. Setting the grid positions for race one, Cheng Cong Fu led the Absolute Racing charge in the first fifteen-minute qualifying session on Saturday morning, finding a competitive set-up in his #3 Audi R8 LMS charger to set the fourth fastest lap time. Liu qualified eight in the #37 Paragon Water Systems sponsored entry, and Andrew Kim placed his #7 Audi in 15th.
Absolute Racing has confirmed it will enter a pair of Audi R8 LMS GT3s in Blancpain GT Series Asia this year.
The team ran a variety of cars on behalf of themselves and others last season, but most notably the OD Racing Audi driven by Aditya Patel and Mitch Gilbert who missed out on the overall Drivers’ title by just one point. J-Fly by Absolute Racing driver Alessio Picariello also starred en route to three pole positions in five outings.
While Absolute’s driver crews are yet to be confirmed, the team is expected to field both Pro/Am and Silver Cup pairings.

Shanghai, October 16th, 2017 – OD Racing pair Aditya Patel and Mitch Gilbert started off the weekend with an outside chance of clinching the title and they did everything they needed to be done. Patel and Gilbert won both Blancpain GT Series Asia races at the Zhejiang International Circuit, finishing one point shy of the title on a very wet race weekend.
Going into the season’s final weekend in third place in the Drivers Championship, 28 points shy of fellow Audi R8 LMS GT3 runners Marchy Lee and Shaun Thong, the OD Racing pair needed to be on top form again.
