ENsport Motors by Absolute Racing and Vincent Floirendo took part of the world-racing debut of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on July 26/27.
The one-off event “Porsche Motorsport GT2 Supersportscar Weekend” took place on the occasion of the 24 Hours of Spa. It was the first opportunity for the team and the driver to meet the brand new 700 horsepower 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.
Following two practice sessions and one qualifying session in scorching weather, Floirendo finished eighth of the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport runners in the 30-minute (13-lap) race one on Friday; the first-ever competitive race run to the SRO’s new GT2 ruleset.
Race two took place on Saturday morning, with the light rain having an effect in the last laps. Floirendo drove steady and clean to finish ninth of the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport field on the 7.004-kilometre Ardennes rollercoaster circuit, completing his first European race weekend with two flawless performances.
Ingo Matter, Team Director of Absolute Racing, said: “It was a great experience for Vincent and the team. We were able to finish both races with two faultless drives. Vincent was able to gain some valuable time behind the wheel, and we gathered important data about the car. We are really looking for our next event with the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport later in the year at Shanghai. The car proved to be both fast and reliable out-of-the-box, and we hope to have the chance of running more of these cars in October.”
Following its debut race at Spa-Francorchamps, the GT2 concept will be reinforcing GT sprint grids in Europe, America and Asia.
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport will be seen for the first time in action on Asia soil during the “Porsche Sports Cup China” on October 19thand 20that the Shanghai International Circuit.
