Quite a mixed weekend for B-Quik Absolute Racing as TSS The Super Series headed overseas to Sepang International Circuit for the third round of the year.

Weather played its part in settling the weekend’s race programme and after the skies erupted on Sunday, Race 2 was cancelled meaning we ended up with just one race over the weekend. But that race, Saturday’s Race 1, was an absolute thriller, hard fought from green lights to chequered flag, and that cemented this as a weekend to remember.

The weather had been mixed all week as we tested and prepared, light rain a continual feature. But come Saturday and it dawned hot and dry for the first time and stayed that way as temperatures rose steadily. The action was hot on track too! And at the end of the 1 hour race we had three cars on the overall podium with a 2-3-4 finish led out by Adisak Tangphuncharoen and Huang Ruohan in the #25 Audi who put in a superb drive to bag a big helping of overall points as well as claim another GT3 AM victory to cruise clear in those standings.

They were just a couple of laps away from a sensational overall win and these two young drivers are really announcing themselves this season. Vincent Lin and Markus Winkelhock in the #27 Audi enjoyed a real fightback after a qualifying mishap threw them to the back of the grid. They finished in a well deserved third place following a tenacious drive up the order.

Meanwhile, Sandy Stuvik and Andy Deng in the #37 Audi (Winhere by B-Quik Absolute Racing) kept their podium and points run going with a fighting fourth place.

There was less luck for the pole sitting #62 car of local driver Akash Nandy and Sri Lanka’s Eshan Pieris though. They comfortably led out a team ‘train’ at the front during the first half of the race but a standard penalty applied for not being at the last round meant they would be looking at no more than the lower points order at best. They did very well to be classified eighth and get on the scoresheets, this pair really have some speed!

In Super Car GT4 Henk Kiks and Erwin de Smit were on the GT4 AM podium after being in the thick of scraps all race long, a real ding dong race for the Dutch duo with no dull moments. That was Saturday done, delivering all the exciting, close fought racing action one associates Super Car.

Then the heavens opened on Sunday and stayed open, relentless, heavy rain thoroughly washing out the day’s programme. We return here next month for the fourth round of the year and for the first time there will be back to back championship rounds of the series outside Thailand.

We are already looking forward to the return trip to Sepang Circuit for round four of the 2024 season from September 6-8.
