The fifth and final Asian round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia 2025 promised to be a blockbuster, with a 24-car grid set for battle at Malaysia’s 5.543km Sepang International Circuit. For Absolute Racing, there was plenty to celebrate, as the team claimed victories and silverware at one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic racing venues. All Absolute Racing entries reached the podium at least once over the weekend.
The Malaysian weekend brought fresh faces and new challenges, with Absolute Racing expanding its entry from three to five Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2s for the pair of 50-minute races in Selangor’s sweltering heat and humidity.
Reigning AM champion Brian Lee Changwoo, representing SQDA-GRIT Motorsport, continued his strong campaign. Having taken his third win of the season alongside teammate Alex Liang Jiatong in Korea, the duo arrived in Malaysia just 12 points adrift of the PRO-AM class leaders and determined to close the gap.
Joining the PRO-AM battle was two-time Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia champion Chris van der Drift. The lightning-fast New Zealander, who secured the PRO titles in both 2019 and 2023, teamed up with Australian racer Todd Kingsford under the FEYNLAB Racing banner.
Meanwhile, Malaysia’s own Haziq and Hairie Oh returned to their home circuit second in the AM standings. Driving the HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing Lamborghini, the brothers were tied on points with series newcomers Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan of Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing. Adding to the excitement, the Ohs and their team entered a second car for Malaysian single-seater and A1 GP veteran Aaron Lim, who was joined by Harith Oh, the younger brother of the reigning Lamborghini Cup champions.
Glorious Saturday
Saturday morning’s opening qualifying session proved challenging for the Absolute Racing crews, but spirits remained high heading into the afternoon’s race. That optimism was rewarded with a sensational performance from the FEYNLAB Racing pairing of Todd Kingsford and Chris van der Drift — charging from P11 on the grid to an overall P2 finish and victory in the PRO-AM class on their very first appearance at Sepang.
Kingsford, still getting to grips with the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, delivered a composed opening stint before handing over to van der Drift in a strong position. The two-time PRO class champion then showcased his trademark pace and racecraft to seal a stunning PRO-AM triumph.
SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Brian Changwoo Lee and Alex Jiatong Liang added to the success with a hard-fought P3 in PRO-AM class, keeping their title challenge firmly on track. The duo rose from ninth on the grid to sixth overall with a clean, consistent drive and no mistakes.
Local favourites Haziq and Hairie Oh delighted the home crowd with a commanding victory in the AM class. The Malaysian brothers delivered under pressure to claim a popular Race 1 win. Teammates and series newcomers Harith Oh and former A1 GP star Aaron Lim also impressed, bringing their car home in P5.
Adding further silverware to Absolute Racing’s tally, Indonesia’s Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan of Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing secured a superb P2 in AM class. Their podium rounded off a magnificent afternoon that showcased the strength and depth of Absolute Racing’s line-up.
Win Again on Sunday
The second race took place in the morning at Sepang International Circuit. The highlight of the weekend came from FEYNLAB RACING drivers Todd Kingsford and Chris van der Drift, who produced a dream debut by taking back-to-back victories in the PRO-AM class. Chris van der Drift made a strong start and held the car in second before handing over to Todd Kingsford. The Australian driver defended strongly against a pack of PRO drivers who were battling for position after a Safety Car period had bunched the field. After a tense final five minutes, with some close-quarters racing, the FEYNLAB RACING duo celebrated another PRO-AM victory, crossing the line third overall.
Elsewhere, SQDA-GRIT Motorsport pairing Alex Jiang and Brian Lee suffered unexpected setbacks earlier in the race and were unlucky to finish only sixth in the PRO-AM class — a result that did not reflect the car’s true pace over the weekend. Brian Lee remains in the PRO-AM title fight, although he knows that recovering eleven points will be a tough challenge.
There was further success for Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing, with Indonesian duo Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan repeating Saturday’s second-place finish in the AM class. Their consistent results keep them firmly in the title fight with only two races remaining in the season.
Local drivers Harith Oh and Aaron Lim also impressed on their first outing, securing a hard-fought third place in the AM class and contributing to a weekend where every Absolute Racing car reached the podium. AM pole-sitter Aaron Lim ran strongly at the class lead until the HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing car suddenly slowed due to activation of the pit limiter. They managed to bounce back to second in the class. For HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing, hopes of another AM class win were dashed when local heroes Haziq Oh and Hairie Oh were hit from behind with just five minutes remaining. Despite crossing the line in AM class fourth place, their determined drive and commitment throughout the event stood out as a highlight for the home crowd. They remain second in the AM class standings, just ahead of the Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing pair.
With multiple podiums and strong performances across the board, Absolute Racing leaves Sepang with momentum and confidence, as several of its drivers and teams remain firmly in PRO-AM and AM championship contention heading into the final round.
