Absolute Corse will field two Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 entries in the eighth edition of the FIA GT World Cup, taking place from 13–16 November as part of the 72nd Macau Grand Prix. Representing the team will be “Mr Macau” Edoardo Mortara and Luca Engstler.
Lamborghini is a two-time winner of the Macau GT Cup and will now be aiming to claim its first-ever FIA GT World Cup victory, marking Absolute Corse’s debut at the iconic Circuito da Guia.
Leading the charge for the Sant’Agata Bolognese marque is Lamborghini Factory Driver Edoardo Mortara, who has also competed with Absolute Corse in selected rounds of the GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS this season. Mortara is widely recognised as one of the true masters of the Macau streets, having taken four GT victories with Absolute Racing.
Mortara’s record around Macau is nothing short of remarkable. Since his debut in 2008, the Swiss driver has stood on the podium an incredible 16 times, with 10 victories across qualifying (2008, 2010, 2017), main (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2017) and support races (2013) in both Formula 3 and GT machinery.
Joining him is Lamborghini Factory Driver Luca Engstler, who will race for Absolute Corse for the first time following his appearance in last year’s FIA GT World Cup with Lamborghini. The German driver, who was caught out by Macau’s famously unforgiving street circuit in 2024, returns fully recovered and highly motivated, looking to translate his natural pace into a strong result this time around.
For the first time, the traditional 30-minute qualifying session will be followed by a Super Pole shootout for the ten fastest drivers, giving each two flying laps on an additional set of fresh tyres. This will be followed by a 12-lap qualifying race and a 16-lap main race, which will decide the FIA GT World Cup winner.
Team Quotes
Ingo Matter (Absolute Racing Team Principal)
We’re really excited to take part in the FIA GT World Cup in Macau with Lamborghini, following Absolute Corse’s first season with the Huracán GT3 EVO2 cars in Asia. Racing with Edo makes it even more special, as we’ve shared a lot of success together in Macau over the years. Luca is not new to the team, but in his first outing in an Absolute Corse Lamborghini, his speed and determination make him a contender from lap one. We’re looking forward to giving our all on the streets of Macau and aiming for a memorable result for both Lamborghini and the team.
Luca Engstler (No.19 Absolute Corse Driver)
I'm really happy to be back and to have earned the trust of Lamborghini and the team. Last year was a big one, but I can't wait to return. Macau is such a special track — it's all about risk and reward. One moment you can look like a hero, the next like an idiot. The walls are so close, and everything is so narrow; it's always dancing on the knife-edge, and that's what makes it so thrilling. To finish the season here, after a year of 24-hour wins and three GT World Championship victories, would be the perfect way to cap it all.
Edoardo Mortara (No. 63 Absolute Corse Driver)
I’m pleased to be back with Lamborghini and feel we have some unfinished business. Macau has always been a very special circuit for me, with some great memories and strong results. Last year was my first time racing with Lamborghini, and it proved to be a challenging weekend, as we were lacking a bit of top speed. The FIA is introducing torque sensors, which I think will be a significant challenge for both the teams and the manufacturers. It should make things interesting and, hopefully, reshuffle the field in a way we can benefit from. Last year, the car felt good, and I had a lot of fun driving the Huracán through the mountain section. Hopefully, this year we’ll have a bit more top speed, allowing us to be competitive and fight for strong results.
Rouven Mohr (Lamborghini Squadra Corse Chief Technical Officer)
I’d like to wish the best of luck to our drivers, Edoardo Mortara and Luca Engstler, and to the entire Absolute Corse team for the FIA GT World Cup in Macau. This race holds a special meaning for us, as it marks the final chapter of the Huracán GT3’s last full season. We want to close this remarkable journey in the best possible way — with strong performances.
