Absolute Racing's fleet of four Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 cars delivered a strong performance at the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, held at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia, securing multiple wins and podium finishes.
The New Zealand PRO duo, reigning champion Marco Giltrap and 18-year-old Clay Osborne, were the fastest drivers in both qualifying sessions. Unfortunately, race one did not go as planned for the Lamborghini Auckland team. Osborne and Giltrap had climbed to fourth place when an opponent spun across Giltrap Group Motorsport car's path, striking the front left of the Lamborghini. This incident required a second pit stop for repairs, resulting in a 15th place finish.
The New Zealanders, who led the series before this weekend's round, overcame their race one disappointment to lead for all but two laps. Giltrap started the race and led for the first 12 laps before the mandatory pit stop. When Osborne took over, he initially resumed in fifth place, but only for a lap as the four cars ahead pitted at the same time. They managed to stay on top of the PRO class leaderboard.
On the other side of the garage, the Lamborghini Seoul car had a similar weekend. After collecting the two points for the AM class pole-position times, SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Brian Lee was also involved in the opening lap accident of the race one. The Korean driver was even forced to retire. On Sunday, Lee bounced back strongly with a AM class win, and an extraordinary third place overall finish.
The 610Racing by Absolute pair Li Xuanyu and Xie Wenjun continued to make impressive progress on a challenging and unfamiliar track. The Chinese duo navigated through the opening lap chaos in race one to secure an outstanding third place in the AM class. In the second race, the series debutants skilfully avoided trouble once more and finished in a commendable fourth place.
Lamborghini Cup points leaders Haziq and Hairie Oh made it four wins out of four. The HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing drivers secured victories in both races in the Lamborghini Cup class. The Malaysian brothers capped off the weekend by also earning two pole-position points, making it an even more perfect performance.
After two events and four races, Giltrap and Osborne are leading the PRO class standings, while Haziq and Hairie Oh lead in the Lamborghini Cup class. In the AM class, Lee is in second place, and Li and Xie are in third. Absolute Racing is leading the teams' standings.
The next Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia round will take place at the Inje Speedium in South Korea on July 20-21.
