Two class victories and a total of four podium finishes marked a successful weekend for the Absolute Racing teams as Round 4 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia unfolded at South Korea’s demanding 3.908 km Inje Speedium circuit.
Absolute Racing fielded three Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 cars for Round 4 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia at South Korea’s Inje Speedium. Reigning AM class champion Brian Lee Changwoo was especially motivated to race on home soil with local outfit SQDA-GRIT Motorsport. Competing in the PRO-AM class, Brian Lee was reunited with teammate Alex Liang Jiatong, who returned to the line-up after missing the Fuji Speedway round in June, where he was temporarily replaced by Japan’s Kohei Tokumasu.
The weekend got off to a promising start in Saturday’s qualifying. Local hero Brian Lee put in a stellar performance to claim overall pole position for the opening race. Alex Liang qualified P8 overall and third in the PRO-AM class.
Reigning Lamborghini Cup champions Haziq and Hairie Oh of HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing also arrived at Inje fully focused on the AM class title fight. The Malaysian duo secured P1 in the AM class in the first qualifying session and P3 in the second. Just behind them were newcomers Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan of Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing, who qualified fourth in class for both races. Exciting racing was clearly on the horizon.
In Race 1 on Saturday afternoon, Brian Lee lost a few places at the start while battling with the quicker PRO drivers but maintained a strong pace, staying close to the front runners. Alex Liang took over for the second stint and was well-positioned for a potential PRO-AM victory when he was hit by a backmarker, derailing their chances. Despite the setback, the Chinese driver recovered to bring the car home third in the PRO-AM class.
Malaysian brothers Haziq and Hairie Oh delivered a flawless performance, leading to a commanding AM class win and P7 overall. Despite pressure from close challengers throughout the race, they held their ground to secure their second consecutive class victory of the season.
The Indonesian pairing of Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan endured a challenging race. After a competitive start, a spin caused by contact with a rival with 12 minutes remaining, along with two penalties from the stewards, dropped them down the order. They ultimately finished fourth in the AM class.
Sunday’s 50-minute Race Two saw SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Alex Liang and Brian Lee take victory in the PRO-AM category. The Chinese driver started the race and kept out of trouble, handing the car over to his teammate while in third position. The race was under a Full Course Yellow at the start of the second stint. Once green-flag racing resumed, Brian Lee once again proved to be the fastest AM driver in the field. The Korean ace overtook both of his rivals ahead, securing a well-deserved home victory—one that narrowly escaped them on Saturday. The Chinese-Korean duo now sit second in the PRO-AM class standings.
Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Dypo Fitramadhan and Umar Abdullah were involved in contact early in the race. However, the incident did not dent the Indonesian duo’s motivation, and they drove to a strong third-place finish in the AM class, maintaining third in the championship standings.
HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing saw their second race come to an early end just before the pit window opened, when Hairie Oh’s Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 came to a halt trackside due to an electrical failure—triggering the Full Course Yellow period. Although they lost valuable points, they remain second in the AM class championship standings.
