Absolute Racing had a lot to celebrate this weekend in round 4 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia season at South Korea’s 3.908km Inje Speedium. Absolute Racing’s Chris van der Drift and Marco Giltrap clinched the PRO championship title as one of Absolute Racing-run teams will take the Teams’ title.

The former champion and the Super Trofeo Junior driver pair proved unstoppable in the Lamborghini Auckland Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2, taking overall victory in both 50-minute races to build an unassailable points lead with four races in hand. Van der Drift and Marco Giltrap started both 50-minute races from the front row and clinched victories in both, doing so in a remarkably comfortable manner.

With two events to go to the final of the season, van der Drift and Giltrap can go into the last two races of the season in China’s Shanghai International Circuit and Italy’s Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi (Lamborghini Grand Finals) without any pressure, as it is not mathematically possible to catch them, aiming for further success in the series.

There was also cause for celebration amongst the Absolute Racing AM crews. Local heroes Brian Lee and John Kwon continued to delight in their first season of international competition, the pair taking an overall podium in race one for SQDA – GRIT Motorsport in the Lamborghini Seoul car. The Korean drivers took a superb win in the opening race to finish in the second place in the second encounter of the weekend.

On the other side of the garage, Star Performance by Absolute Racing’s Pasarit Promsombat and Aniwat Lommahadthai took the AM win in the second race, just missing out on an overall podium in fourth overall. The Thai drivers were second in the first race, which means that the battle of the AM class title will continue quite open with four races to go.

The HZO Fortis Racing Team duo Hairie and Haziq Oh showcased their continuous improvement by securing back-to-back second-place finishes in the Lamborghini Cup. Making their Super Trofeo Asia debut this season, the Malaysian brothers are progressively closing in on the leading cars, demonstrating their adaptability on different circuits each weekend.

In the Super Trofeo Asia teams' standings, Absolute Racing holds a comfortable margin over the second-place team, which is Absolute Racing-run SQDA – GRIT Motorsport. In one way or another, the Teams' title will be taken by one of the Absolute Racing teams.

Reflecting on Absolute Racing's achievements, Ingo Matter expressed, “We are very happy  to celebrate the Pro championship title with Marco and Chris, and that the Teams' title will be secured by one of our crews. As we ventured into the Super Trofeo Asia campaign, we had confidence in our capabilities, but achieving these two titles with two rounds to go surpassed our expectations. Despite this success, the championship journey continues, and we have two lineups in strong position to conquer the AM class. This mission will be our primary focus in the races to come.”

As the 2023 season approaches its  culmination, the fifth and last Asia-based round of the 2023 Super Trofeo Asia season is just around the corner. The one of the most competitive one-make championships in the region is set to return to the heart of Chinese motorsport, the Shanghai International Circuit, from September 8 to 10. Subsequently, Round 6 will take place as an integral part of the Lamborghini Grand Finals at Vallelunga on November 18 and 19.
